Productivity Secrets to Achieving Your Goals Online
When it comes to achieving success online, productivity is one of the essential factors that you will need to have. This is made obvious in the light of the numerous tasks that an internet entrepreneurs commits themselves to.
Checking inbox, learning new methods, working on new content, sending emails, contacting JV partners, attending to customer emails and requests, holding webinars, writing copy, building traffic, testing and the list goes on and on.
So how do we get through all these things and still be fresh enough for the other dimensions of our lives?
What I have personally found works for me will be shared in this blog post, but feel free to add your own thoughts and ideas in the comments section below this post. So they are as follows:
TIMEBOX
This is one of my favorite productivity method. It works really effectively if you keep to it. Basically how you do it is this, go get yourself a timer. Then you would set the timer at 45 minute intervals (this interval works well for me personally). Now the objective of this is that within each timebox of 45 minutes, you will aim to work on one major task to completion. Or a bigger task could be broken into 2 or 3 of these timebox intervals.
Within each timebox, all you would do is to focus RELENTLESSLY on this one single task and to do it at a fast pace.
If you’re creating a sales letter, or writing a blog post, with this focus, you could easily create a high quality piece in a short amount of time.
So the key here is to eliminate distractions and remain true to your task for that allocated period of time.
FOCUS ON HIGHEST PRIORITIES & HIGHEST ROI ACTIVITIES
The next thing you could do for yourself to DRAMATICALLY increase your productivity is to MAKE a LIST of your highest ROI activities, your highest priorities that is of high importance. Then stick it at a visible place so that you will be able to keep your focus and attention upon it.
For example, when I’m working on an Internet Project, I would focus on things such as Creating Valuable Content & Bonuses, Organizing Joint Ventures, and Testing and Tracking Traffic Sources, and Improving Conversions.
Stay true to these tasks and don’t spend your time on excessive webinar watching, reading too many publications and blog posts, reading forum thread after thread to “take a breather”. These things can be done at your leisure time, but NOT when you’re working.
FOCUS ON ONE TASK AT A TIME (Don’t Multitask)
A research has shown that by multitasking, your performance will drop to lower than the level of a marijuana intoxicated person. That’s such a startling statistic. In our time starved world, multitasking has become a norm, or something that we even pride ourselves in. However, don’t do that to yourself.
The quality of your work will drop and you won;t be getting much done in the same amount of time.
Instead if you focused on doing one task at a time, your productivity will dramatically improve, the quality of your work will be better, and it will also have more depth. Plus you will be less stressed out also.
I used to like multitasking, but looking back, I everytime I did multitask, I would go on to achieve less than what I am accustomed to when I’m focusing on one key thing at a time. I can’t stress this enough, just do it.
CREATE ROUTINES/HABITS
This is a very effective way to make yourself productive on AUTOPILOT. If you’d spend minimum of 1 month to install a habit that is empowering and useful for your business, you will find yourself doing it on a consistent basis without too much reliance on motivation.
The trick to this is to keep working on these habits forcefully and intentionally everyday until it becomes ingrained as a routine.
LEARN HOW TO AUTOMATE & DELEGATE
Now in your business there is bound to be many tasks that are categorized in the C and D category, where they are not critical nor urgent, and not even bear any importance, but it has to be done. Some of them are like time vampires, sucking up the remaining time that you have that could be best channeled to the marketing of your business.
Automate and Systematize the jobs that can be done through software or technology.
Delegate the repetitive tasks to someone who you can hire for cheaper.
Things like: Link Building, Customer Support, Installing Websites, Certain content creation, Graphics creation, video editing.
ELIMINATE DISTRACTION
Switch off your mobile phone, close your email, turn off your TV, keep away your computer games and knuckle down. Work on it with discipline. Run away from your distractions.
HAVE ENOUGH REST
Lifestyle change, but its amazing how much a good nights rest will impact our next day. Let your mind rest and don’t think too much about stuff when your about to sleep. Let your body have some time off. Let it recharge to give yourself full batteries for the next day.
SHARPEN THE SAW
This concept was coined by Stephen Covey. This concept is based on taking the time to recharge your batteries and to improve yourself, plus taking a break and coming back refreshed. Often times, when I’m frustrated at a particular project and there seem to be not a good solution to it, I would proceed to read a book, take a break, go for a run or even go on a holiday to take my mind off work. Really works wonders to your motivation level.
EAT THAT FROG
This phrase was coined by Brian Tracy and it really has worked effectively for me. This concept is simply this: Complete the biggest task of the day FIRST. Don’t move it to the back of your list. Do the hardest yard first, and the rest of the day will be much easier.
For me, its normally writing a piece of great content or sort out the difficult problems from the day before.
EAT THE RIGHT FOODS
Have a great diet. Basic advice, but could potentially give you lots of new energy and improve your health, so that your downtime will be reduced (won’t get sick so much).
Foods that are low in fats, carbs, have moderate protein but lots of vegetables and fibre content will be great for you.
Also, take the basic supplements such as Omega-3, and a full multivitamin will be great for your immediate and long term health.
Cut out KFC, Mcdonald’s and all the other fast foods if you can.
EXERCISE
Having done exercises and experiencing time without exercise, I could say that it makes a big difference in my productivity. Blood pumps through your body, and your heart rate goes up, releasing great chemicals responsible for motivation, happiness and well being.
These are the benefits of exercise, not to mention a better physique and self-esteem.
REFRESH MIND WITH GOALS
I normally have my Goals, Visions for my business and career on my board that I could refer to frequently. It keeps me focused on the right things. Keep me going. Have short, mid and long term goals for your business up on your wall, and refer to them everyday. You will attract what you focus on, so activate also the law of attraction for it to work for you.
ENJOY WHAT YOU ARE DOING
If you have picked a niche that you are passionate about, odds you are enjoying what you are doing. If you are not, think of the benefits and value that you are creating, and learn to enjoy the work and focus on your purpose.
If you really can’t enjoy, then consider changing your project/job.
REWARD YOURSELF FOR EVERY MINI MILESTONE
Enjoy your journey, and learn to take every victory well and have a mini celebration. Reward yourself and your team for the accomplishments. Remember you have got to enjoy the journey as well as success is a journey, not a destination.
CONCLUSION
Productivity has to be worked on day after day. If you set up routines and habits, plus focus on the most important things and enjoying the journey at the same time, I’m sure you will be very productively churning out value for your customers.
All the best for you in your journey, and please don’t forget to place your comments below and also subscribe to the newsletter.
